    Greetings from Bermuda!
I have stumbled upon your website looking for the rescue torpedo buoys that you have a picture of with some of your other kit. Can you please tell me who the supplier is of those buoys? They are hard to come by these days.
    Thanks!
    nathan

  11. Hi Nathan

Not sure who supplies HM Coastguard but they can be bought from various companies. Googled it and here is a company in the UK that sells them. http://www.aspli.com/product_detail.asp?cat1=4&cat2=83&cat3=&pid=962
They also do other water related safety equipment.

I believe the torpedo buoy we currently have is a old design.

Hope this helps and please keep visiting our website. Are you with the Coastguard in Bermuda?

  19. Liz Farquhar says:

    Hi

We are having a wedding at Castle Stuart, Dalcross on 31st October 2009 and we were planning to release some Chinese Sky Lanterns as part of the celebrations.
Could you advise who to contact as we certainly don’t want to spark an “alert” by doing this.

    Thanks

    Liz

    • Hi Liz

Thank you for enquiring about this kind of display as you are correct it would most likely spark a land, sea and air search. There is 2 ways you could notify us. If they are going to set the lanterns off at a pre-arranged time then you can contact Aberdeen Coastguard Maritime Co-ordenation Centre on 01224 592334 and advise them of the date, time and location. If you are unsure what time they will be set off you can call 5mins before setting them off on the above number providing the location.

Hope the wedding goes well and we will keep a lookout for your lanterns.

      • Liz Farquhar says:

Thank you so much for the information and will follow your advice.

        Thanks again
        Liz

    Dear Sir/Madam,

I’m a student from Northumbria University; the faculty of Transportation design. I’m currently doing my final year project where I’ve chosen to design a new Coast Guard vehicle for my project.

In order to complete my project I would need to do researches to support my project regarding the Coast Guard’s vehicles and its function. Thus, it would be very helpful if you could give me your email adress to send you a couple of questions.

    Thank you,

    • Thank you for your enquiry. The best contact point for your questions would be at Coastguard Headquarters in Southampton. Unfortunately I cannot provide a contact name but you can either phone them on 02380 329487 or visit the official site to send them a message. Click here for link
Best of luck with your project

  21. daniel James says:

Hi, I hoped to swim the cannel for the Lewis Mighty fund but due to the horrendous cost(this is for charity not personal gain) I have decided that swimming the length of loch ness would be of more financial benefit to the cause. Could you please pass me any information you have on this such as local pilots that may be able to help.
    Regards
    Daniel

    • Hi Daniel

From a Coastguard point of view I can only advise on what would be required by the Coastguard from a safety point of view. HM Coastguard assumes responsibility for Maritime Search and Rescue on Loch Ness. This is provided through shore teams based at Inverness and Fort Augustus with a RNLI Inshore Lifeboat based at Temple Pier, Drumnadrochit. We would advise you have a safety boat to assist with your swim to ensure that vessels navigating the Loch are aware of your presence and most importantly that can provide assistance to yourself should you need help or support.
Althought being a Loch, Loch Ness can suffer rough conditions but a full weather update can be obtained from the Met Office website or the Coastguard Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre (MRCC) in Aberdeen on 01224 592334
Before setting out on your swim please notify Aberdeen Coastguard of the following details
Where you are swimming from and to
What time you anticipate to finish
A shore contact name and number in case we need to make enquiries if your are over due
Safety boat type and callsign (Marine VHF Ch16 is monitored on Loch Ness from the Aerial Site at Foyers)
Safety equipment you have (Pyrotechnics, Marker Buoys)

      Our Details
Aberdeen Coastguard MRCC Tel: 01224 592334
In an Emergency Dial 999 and ask for COASTGUARD or Call ABERDEEN COASTGUARD on Marine VHF Ch 16

I hope this information helps and best of luck with your swim

Myself and 15 other members of Satorishido martial arts club will be canoeing the Caledonian Canal for charity between 1st and 3rd of May. Our vendor suggested that we contact you to inform you of our plans:

There will be 16 club members – with one under 18 (17)
We will be in open top Canadian style canoes, we intend to stop off at Laggan on the Saturday, and either Invermoriston possibly farther up Loch Ness on the Sunday – completing the trip by around 16:00(hopefully!)
We are holding 2 training/safety days for members not used to canoeing prior to theb event. We have also done our risk assessment etc for British Waterways. We will also have multiple mobile phone networks between our various participants.

Is the above information all you need, or are there any other requirements we need to look at before we go.

  23. Adam Sutherland says:

  24. Lee says:

    Hi

Ive recently purchased a VW based beach buggy.

I have been told it used to belong to the inverness coast guard, it was red and running on an old 1955 oval beelte chassis. The floor was boarded with wood to help combat the salt rot.

Im looking for any pics or info you have of this vehicle, as im hoping to restore it in the livery it wore when in service with the coast guard.

    Kind regards Lee

    • Hi Lee

As far as I am aware there have never been a VW beach buggy based at Inverness. I will do some further enquiries and post here the outcome.

      • Lee says:

Hi, It would have been in the early/mid 60′s that it began service.

Ill do some more diging my end too, see if I can pinpoint any exact dates, locations, names etc.

It would be super to return it to its original livery.

    • Hi Steve
