Shortly after the last callout whilst still at the Rescue Station the team were tasked to a report of another person in difficulty in the Caledonian Canal by Clachnaharry in Inverness.  The team proceeded to the scene with the Water Rescue Equipment and carried out a short search.  Further information deemed it to be a Hoax call.

Hoax calls can cost lives and divert Search & Rescue assests away from genuine life threatening emergencies.

At 2240 this evening the team were paged to a report of a person in difficulty in the water at South Kessock.  The team proceeded to the rescue station to collect the water rescue equipment but were stood down on arrival.

The team were paged at 1645 today to a report of a male possibly fallen overboard from a vessel in the canal system at Fort Augustus.  The team proceeded with the water rescue equipment from Inverness to meet up with the Fort Augustus rescue team.  A search of the canal system was carried out and assistance was given by the Loch Ness Lifeboat.  The male was later traced safe and well by police.

The team were paged this morning at 1140 to a report of a person having possibly fallen from the Kessock Bridge.  A full land and sea search was carried out but nothing found.  False alarm with good intent.

Chinese Lantern

The team were paged this evening at 2353 to a report of a possible red flare in the Loch Ness area.  Enquiries quickly concluded the distress flare was in fact a chinese lantern.

The Coastguard would like to remind the public to inform the Coastguard when setting off Chinese or Love Lanterns to avoid Search and Rescue assets being diverted from other emergencies.

If you see a distress flare at sea or around the coast contact the COASTGUARD immediately on 999 even if you are in doubt.  You may be the only person to see this emergency signal.

At 1120 today the team were paged to a report of a small boat drifting in Dores bay with no persons onboard.  Due to concerns someone may have possibly fallen overboard a full land and water search was carried out.  No-one was located and enquiries found the boat had manage to break free from its mooring.

At 1543 today (Sun) the team were paged to a report of a female in the River Ness by the Black Bridge.  The team were stood down at the station as the police managed to get the casualty back to safety.

At 0350 this morning (Sun) the team were paged to assist the Scottish Ambulance in extracting a male casualty from an island on the River Ness by Dochgarroch at the North end of Loch Ness.  The team proceeded with the water rescue equipment along with Loch Ness Lifeboat.  Upon arrival onscene the casualty made his own way back from the island.

The Coastguard advise anyone cut off by water should dial 999 and ask for COASTGUARD and wait in a safe place for their arrival.  Don’t attempt to walk through water as you may not know how deep it is.

At just after 1700 this evening (Wed) the team were paged along with Loch Ness Lifeboat, Ambulance and Police to a report of 2 females in difficulty on Loch Ness near Urquhart Castle.  The pair who fell out their capsized dinghy were kept afloat by lifejackets as  emergency service raced to the scene.  Loch Ness Lifeboat was in the water quickly and took the casualties to safety at the boat house where medical treatment was provided.

At 1855 this evening (Monday) the team were tasked to a report of person or persons trapped on the mudflats by Redcastle.  Teams were deployed to both sides of the Firth along with the water rescue equipment to search and make contact with the first informant.  Kessock Lifeboat which was out on training was diverted to the incident also to carry out a water search.  After a search of the area and speaking to the informant it was established to be a false alarm with good intent.  All search and rescue assest were stood down.

The Coastguard encourge members of the public to report incidents where it appears there may be someone in danger around our coasts or at sea by dialling 999 and ask for COASTGUARD
